CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPY IN CANTERBURY
CHILD PSYCHOTHERAPY
Child Psychotherapy can help make sense of a child’s troubled thoughts and feelings, particularly when they are expressing emotions through behaviour that causes distress to themselves or those around them.
Rigorous training in Psychoanalytic Child Psychotherapy has equipped me with the skills to observe and make sense of what a child may be struggling with. This includes exploring thoughts and feelings the child is aware of and those of which they are less aware.
Psychotherapeutic work is always creative and tailored to the individual child in an age appropriate way. It is not necessary for the younger child to be verbally expressive; the use of toys, play and drawing can be very helpful, when it is difficult to find the words.
Length and intensity of therapy depends on each child’s needs and will be discussed after initial consultation with parents and usually three assessment sessions with the child. Periodic meetings with parents are offered throughout therapy.

I offer both long term and short term psychotherapy including specialist assessments which can help carers and professionals in understanding a young person’s state of mind.
